I Stopped Washing My Hair

Every day, that is. I know, I know. You might be thinking, “Ew” – and that’s ok.

I stopped washing my hair and it’s never been healthier! I regularly go two weeks between washes, but have pushed it further on occasion. So, what I have found is my hair looks best and behaves better when it’s “dirty.”

This hair endeaver was born mostly out of necessity. I have waist-long hair that takes FOREVER to dry. If I wash and don’t style, welcome to frizz city!

Firstly, before stopping daily washes cold turkey, you need a plan. Secondly, it will take effort and time to not wash your hair. Begin with two days, then three, and four. You get the picture. Think of it as hair training. All of this I have learned from Jasmine Rae. You can find her on Instagram here. She is the hair queen with all kinds of tips in her highlight bubbles.

Here are the simple guidelines to follow:

  • Daily Scalp Brushing. Exfoliating your scalp will be necessary. Plus, you want to distribute the oils from your scalp to the length of your hair.
  • Dry Shampoo and push through. I try to not rely heavily on dry shampoo, but in the beginning and after sweaty workouts it will be necessary.
  • Scrunchie Ponytail to sleep. Wear a loose ponytail and drape it over your pillow. You’ll get lift at the root and no creases.
  • Silk Pillowcase to reduce frizziness, and they’re great for preventing facial creases and bedhead.

Think of the time saved from daily washing. What’s holding you back from not washing your hair every day?

Hi Betsy, my hair is quite oily. Start with 2 or 3 days between washes and go up from there. Scalp brushing is the key! Let me know if you try.

  2. Interesting to go so long between washes! Such a time saver!
